Chapter 16

“I’m going,” Wes said as he bent over the back of the lounge and pressed a kiss to Ollie’s lips and his nose wrinkled. He’d just smoked and it was a particularly pungent strain. Wes stood then fanned the smoke away as it spilled from Ollie’s nostrils. “A lox sandwich on an everything bagel,” he confirmed.

“No onions,” Ollie said firmly and slowly as he pointed up at him and Wes nodded.

“You’re getting onions because I’m getting onions,” he said and Ollie’s lip pushed out.

“And an apple cinnamon muffin. And a pickle,” he added and Wes squeezed an eye shut as he committed it all to memory.

“Got it. Don’t lose track of time. We’re meeting my mom at 11:00,” he said and Ollie nodded.

“I’ll be out of the shower by the time you get back,” he promised. “It’s a good thing she already likes me, she might forgive my breath,” he added petulantly and Wes snorted as he backed through the door.

“What are you talking about? She doesn’t like you,” he said and Ollie gasped as he turned and looked over the back of the lounge.

“Karen said you’d say that and that I was never allowed to believe you,” he said and Wes laughed as he pushed his keys into his pocket.

“I’ll be back soon. Get in the shower,” he ordered as he pointed and Ollie held up his middle finger as he turned and dropped back onto the lounge. Wes rolled his eyes as Ollie dabbed his cigarette into the grinder. “We’ll go the farmer’s market without you,” he threatened.

“Promise?” Ollie asked and Wes scowled at him.

“Get ready, Ollie,” he called over his shoulder as he opened the door and shook his head as he leaned and checked the path. It was clear so he stepped out and quickly shut the door behind him. He pulled his phone from his pocket to send Ollie a reminder to get in the shower then swore under his breath as Colin Trecker stepped out from behind a palm tree. He waved and Wes turned and hurried in the other direction.

“Wes! Wait!” He called and Wes pushed his hands in his pockets and kept walking. “Come on! I’ve been out here for two hours,” he said and Wes’ stopped and his shoulders sagged. He muttered several curses as he waited for Colin to catch up to him. “I’m sorry. I would have called or sent a message but I knew you wouldn’t respond,” he explained quickly and Wes held his hands up.

“You caught us. Good job,” he said blandly. “We haven’t been trying to hide it that hard lately,” he added. They decided to be a little more obvious and let the public gradually catch on. It was going to be a little less gradual than they hoped but Wes was looking forward to publicly gushing about how wonderful Ollie was. Colin shook his head quickly.

“That’s not why I’m here,” he insisted then stepped closer. “People have noticed though,” he said pointedly and Wes shrugged.
